Exiled by her brother Caligula in 39, she returned in 41 and became Claudius' fourth wife in 49 after the downfall of Messalina. She ambitiously promoted her son Nero, whom Claudius adopted in 50, and when it appeared that Claudius might give his young son Britannicus equal honors, she poisoned Claudius in 54. Nero became Augustus, but they constantly quarreled, and he had her murdered in March of 59." - Moneta Historical Reference
