150 – 130 BC
AE Chalkous, 13 mm, 2.00 grams, 20 degrees
O: Laureate head of Zeus to right
R: Tripod between M E, all within annular wreath
Ref: SNG Cop 525; BCD 727; Grandjean 642-643
Ex-Forum Ancient Coins Lot (part of) Nov 2022; ex BCD with his tag; ex-Pegasi Numismatics with tag; ex-unknown collector tag (post BCD)
Notes: The coin was purchased from Pegasi stock by BCD in Dec 1998 for $20.00. Unknown collector's tag notes it as ex-BCD collection not in Leu sale. Also noted is that this coin is Very Rare. Graded Fine by Pegasi. The pictures I took do not do the obverse justice, I can actually see the Zeus head in hand, but I agree it is Fine and certainly not better. This was a super hard coin to photograph, I took at least 20 photos using different lighting and settings and even cameras. I am still not happy, but not going to spend more time on it.
