Most viewed - 12 Caesars denarii
Vespasian_ric_77.jpg
Vespasian(us)270 viewsVespasian, denarius
RIC II 702, RSC 364.
Rome mint, 74 AD.
Obv. IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right.
Rev. PON MAX TR P COS V, Vespasian seated right, branch in left hand, scepter in right.
19 mm 3,21 g

Although the seated figure is male, this reverse is strongly reminscent of the 'Tribute Penny' type of Tiberius.

I like the details on the reverse (look at the chair and scepter!)

Domitian_RIC_II_271.jpg
Domitian(us) as caesar154 viewsDomitian, denarius.
RIC II 271 (Titus), RSC 399a.
17 - 18 mm, 3.4 g.
Rome Mint, 80 AD.
Obv. CAESAR DIVI F DOMITIANVS COS VII, laureate, bearded, head right.
Rev. PRINCEPS IVVENTVTIS, Corinthian helmet on draped chair.

A significant set of coins was issued in 80 AD in conjunction with the divine propriation of the gods for the plague and fire in Rome and the eruption of the Vesuvius. The coins refer to a special religious feast to please the gods. The religious rites required that the sacred couches of the gods (pulvinaria), be set out with emblems of the deity placed on the couch. There are several such representations on the coins of Titus and Domitian, like this denarius with a helmet on a draped couch (Minerva).

This denarius has a beautiful nice centered bust.

augustus_RIC_207.jpg
Augustus139 viewsAugustus, denarius.
RIC I 207, RSC 43.
Lugdunum mint.
19.5 mm, 3.8 g
Obv. CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE, laureate head right.
Rev. AVGVSTI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT, C L CAESARES below, Gaius and Lucius standing front, each with a hand resting on a round shield, a spear, and in field above, a lituus right and simpulum left.

Gaius and Lucius were adopted in 17 BC by their maternal grandfather Augustus, who named the two boys his heirs. They were raised and educated by their grandparents. Lucius died in Gaul of an illness in 2 A.D and Gaius died two years later in Lycia, after being wounded during a campaign in Artagira. The death of both Gaius and Lucius, the Emperor's two most favored heirs, compelled Augustus to adopt his stepson, Tiberius, and his sole remaining grandson, Postumus Agrippa as his new respective heirs.

I love this Augustus portrait!

Nero_RIC_53.jpg
Nero121 viewsNero, denarius.
Rome mint, struck 64-65 AD.
RIC I 53, RSC 119.
18mm 3.23 g.
Obv. NERO CAESAR AVGVSTVS, laureate head right.
Rev. IVPPITER CVSTOS, Jupiter, naked to the waist, cloak around lower body, seated left on throne, holding thunderbolt in right hand and long sceptre in left.

This denarius was possibly issued after the conspiracy against Nero in 64-65 AD. Nero believed it was Jupiter the Guardian (Custos) who had saved him from harm.

Titus_RIC_1.jpg
Titus111 viewsTitus, denarius.
RIC 1, RSC 334a.
20 mm 3,31 g.
Rome mint, June - July 79 AD.
Obv. IMP T CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG., laureate head right.
Rev. TR POT VIII COS VII, (Jewish) captive kneeling right in front of trophy of arms.

A rare issue from the beginning of Titus' reign, minted during the nine days after Vespasian's death ( 23 June to 1 July 79 A.D.). The coin is rare because only two specimens were found in the Reka Devnia Hoard.

I read in Sear (p. 463, millennium edition):
'This reverse [and the following] refer either to the victory in Judaea or, alternatively, may be associated with the activities in northern Britain of the celebrated governor Gnaeus Julius Agricola, father in law of the historian Tacitus'. Agricola was a famous Roman general responsible for much of the Roman conquest of Britain.

Tiberius_Tribute_penny.jpg
Tiberius98 viewsTiberius, denarius.
RIC 30, RSC 13a.
struck in Lugdunum, 36-37 AD.
3.7 gr. 19mm.
Obv: TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS, laureate head right.
Rev: PONTIF MAXIM, female figure (Livia?) seated right on chair with ornamented legs holding sceptre and branch, feet rest on footstool.
This type is commonly known as the 'Tribute Penny,' the coin to which Jesus referred to when he was discussing paying taxes to the Romans, and said "render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's" (Mark 12:17).

It took me some time to find a tribute penny this nice.
