21-01 - DOMICIANO (81 - 96 D.C.) FALSIFICACIÓN ANCIANA
Híbrido realizado con cuños pertenecientes el anverso a Domiciano y el del reverso a su padre Vespasiano ó a su hermano Tito.
Denario Forrado 18x16 mm 2.2 gr.

Anv: "CAESAR DIVI F DOMITIANVS COS VII" Leyenda en sentido anti-horario - Cabeza laureada viendo a derecha.
El cuño del anverso se puede datar por los títulos del Emperador (COS VII – Cónsul por Séptima vez) ya avanzado el 80 D.C.
Rev: "PON MAX – TR P COS VI" – Pax (La Paz) sentada en un trono a izquierda, portando una rama de olivo en la mano de su brazo derecho extendido.
El cuño del reverso puede pertenecer a monedas emitidas por Vespasiano en el 75 D.C. o por Tito en 77-78 D.C. años en los cuales los mencionados ostentaban el título de Cónsul por sexta vez respectivamente.

Híbrido realizado con cuños que al datarlos por los títulos que ostentaba el Emperador, nos dan dos fechas distintas, a saber: 93 D.C. para el cuño del anverso y 87 D.C. para el del reverso.
Denario Forrado 18 mm 2.3 gr.

Anv: "IMP CAES DOMIT AVG - GERM P M TR P XIII" - Cabeza laureada viendo a derecha.
[I] El cuño del anverso se puede datar por los títulos del Emperador (TR P XIII – Recibidos sus poderes de Tribuno por décima tercera vez) en el 93 D.C. Un corte de testeo cruza el busto del Emperador, al parecer a alguien en la antigüedad no lo convenció la falsificación
Rev: "IMP XIIII COS XIII CENS P P P" – Minerva de pié a derecha sobre la proa de una galera, blandiendo una jabalina con mano derecha y portando escudo en la izquierda.
El cuño del reverso se puede datar por los títulos del Emperador (IMP XIIII COS XIII) en el 87 D.C.

Rev: "COS III PATER PATRIAE" – Implementos/emblemas sacerdotales del Augur usados en los sacrificios: "simpulum" (copa pequeña), "aspergillum" (instrumento para espolvorear o rociar), "praefericulum" (jarra o vaso utilizado en los sacrificios) y "lituus" (báculo o cayado usado por los augures).

This coin has the AG legend error combined with a reverse that was used for Caesars (CAESS used for Constantine II as Caesar) being used for Constantine as Augustus. Constantine has the same reverse type but with legend VIRTVS AVGG.

The coin combines obverse of Constantine I with reverse of Constantine II:

This is a challenge for all but the cognoscenti. Notwithstanding its superficially shabby appearance, it qualifies as the best of its type because that is what it is, the best of four examples known. To appreciate this it is necessary to understand the background to the coin. This imitative hybrid was unknown to numismatists until 2001 when four examples were discovered in the East Arachosia (Quetta) Hoard in southwestern Pakistan, to date the only known find of the type. Three of the four examples, in lesser condition than this one, Miller (CH 10.275) 180 and 182 & 183 are now in the collection of the ANS as noted by van Alfen in AJN 14 (2002) p. 183-186 & pl. 29, #6, #7 & #8 (ANS 2002 acquisitions #460- #462; accession numbers: 2002.19.3 - 19.5). This fourth specimen is the only example outside of a museum collection. 3 comments

whilst the reverse places this at c.Summer 166-Dec 166.
No such coin is listed in RIC, but the obverse concords
with RIC 528-537, and the reverse with RIC 561-567.
