Hello and Introduction
« on: March 22, 2024, 07:32:33 am »
Since I've started posting here and uploading my collection to the Member's Gallery, I thought I'd introduce myself and give a bit of background to my collection journey.

I got interested in coins at an early age (late 90's early 2000's) thanks to my dad, who has his own collection (although he no longer actively collects.) These would mostly be US, world, and bullion coins. I worked at filling Whitman books, and my prize coin was an 1888 Indian Head cent (still have it!)

My first introduction to ancients came 4 or 5 years ago when I saw an ad for an antiquities seller in a magazine. I have always been interested in ancient history and thought how cool it would be to own such a coin. Perhaps I went off the deep end because my very first ancient coin was a Tiberius "tribute penny", ordered from a dealer in Germany:

While the coin was in transit, though, I couldn't resist browsing more and that's when I discovered this place. I bought a Vespasian denarius, which, though the second coin purchased, was the first in hand. (I am working on taking updated photos.)

With that I was hooked! I've bought and sold a lot over the past few years and my collection has changed since starting. I'm not really a specialist, but I appreciate coins from all ancient history. My primary interests are in Roman Imperial coins, coins of biblical significance, and coins with animals. I also enjoying pursuing coins with interesting or rare reverse types, excellent portrait coins, and any coin that carries a good story with it.

You can see my Collection Gallery here:

I have a lot of coins to upload and I will be adding more through the coming weeks. Thanks for looking, and thanks to FAC for providing these resources!

My very first numismatic coin was a British shipwreck gold sovereign recovered from the RMS Douro which sank in 1882 and was reclaimed in 1995. Amazingly, I also managed to acquire a much scarcer Brazilian gold coin from the same shipwreck along with the auction catalogue some years later.
