Who are they?
« on: October 23, 2006, 03:08:24 pm »
Not a laurel-wreath or a diadem among them, so who are they?
Just a little fun, answers in about a week. They are not arranged chronologically.

Alex.

I'm so bad at this, but 3 is Constantius Gallus, 5 is Antoninus Pius, 6 is Cloudius Albinus, 1 is Augustus and 4 Marc Anthony (I'm not so sure about these two).

At a glance, and aware of danger, I'll guess that no. 5 is Hadrian (hair combed forward in mannered way, not back in natural waves) and no. 6 is Clodius Albinus, but I may well regret that one.
No. 1 I'll get, but not immediately (meaning, I've seen it, but...).

I'm pretty sure I've seen the coin from which 1 and 4 are taken.

Well?  Pat L.
Or, maybe not quite so cut-and-dried.

The first one is the only one that bothers me as I have seen it before, but can't remember where.  It is obviously early...BC I mean.  Octavian is about all I can really come up with offhand but it certainly isn't typical.  And  the last one...well all those tetrarchial divi issues look alike don't they?

Octavian, Magnentius, Constantius Gallus, Marc Antony, Antoninus Pius, Codius Albinus, Decentius and Maximianus.

Nobody has got them all right, but one of you has only got one wrong.

Then - logically deduced - the solution must be
Octavian, Magnentius, Gallus, Antony, Antoninus Pius, Clodius Albinus, Decentius and Constantius I.

Best regards

Here are my guesses:

1)  Augustus (wild guess)

2)  Magentius (or maybe Decentius, they look the same to me... lol)

3)  Constantius Gallus

4)  Marcus Antonius?

5)  Antoninus Pius.

6)  No clue...

7)  No clue.

8 )  Veiled Maximianus

Didn't look at any of the above posts, I swear! :)
Ironically enough, I was just going to make a thread like this one!  Maybe I still will

Well, if it was me that got all but one right, I would have to change the last coin to Galerius rather than to Constantius I.  Most of the time Constantius I has a different nose than the other two.

And if it is me, I change the last one for Constantius I, following Jochen
