AN ART HISTORIAN'S NUMISMATIC STUDIES

(presided over by the statue from Haghigheorghitika in Arcadia)

Hagigeorg statue

The Statue from Haghigheroghitika in Arcadia: it refers to a place with a chapel of St. George, but to students of Greek archaeology it is the find-spot of this large Early Archaic statue, spelled simply on road signs in Roman letters as in my site address.  I like the statue, and I like the word, which is accented on the antepenult syllable.  So the statue is the tutelary deity of my web site.  It is a bit over life-size, so probably a deity, and it is dressed, I think, as a male and has the same hair style as the twins, in all probablility Kleobis and Biton, dedicated by Argos at Delphi.  In fact, though, our only evidence is the statue itself.
