Mircea I was described as the "bravest and ablest of the Christian princes," by the historian Leunclavius. He was father to Vlad II Dracul and grandfather of Mircea II, Vlad Tepes, Vlad Calugarul and Radu the Handsome, all rulers of Wallachia. His grandson, Vlad Tepes (the Impaler), one of the most notorious leaders in history, was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's "Dracula."
