Hi all,

Normally I try to keep calm when describing my new acquisitions but this one ;D. The dealer's description said 'you'll never find a better one' and I'm inclined to agree. Tiny amount of (completely unnecessary) tooling around the lettering which doesn't really show apart from under magnification) and a slight scratch on Alex's cheek. Anyway, judge for yourselves; I've been looking at this coin for the past two days :tongue:

Severus Alexander, sestertius, mint of Rome
IMP CAES M AVR SEV ALEXANDER AVG; Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust (from behind) right
PM TRP COS P P; salus seated left feeding serpent
BMCRE 40, 222AD

      Nice coin, rare too, since the meager production of bronze coins characteristic of Sept. Sev. after 196, Caracalla, Macrinus, and Elagabalus, continued on for the first year of Alexander's reign.  Alexander's bronzes only become common from TR P II on.
