DiviSeries website revisited
« on: February 13, 2024, 10:36:33 am »
Good morning,
I just want to inform you that after many years I have decided to renew my website dedicated to the Antoninians of restitution of Trajan Decius. www.qblay.com
It is not an aesthetic renewal, but one of content.
Basically the changes have been:
Bibliography, references that I initially neglected and that I have now incorporated.
Starting with just over 1,000 registered coins, the goal was to reach 2,000 to see if the hypotheses held up. Now with almost 3,000 coins the estimates have been confirmed and allow us to open new lines of research that I point out: volume estimation for issues close to the Divi, such as the Antoninians of Decius or studies on the deterioration of the dies in the   mint.
To make the software and methodology available to whoever needs it to begin studies on stamps and links. The software is easy to adapt to any series, you can see how it has been applied to the Double Sesterces of Decius or his Aureus. A couple of researchers have already asked me for it and I hope it can be useful to them. In any case, you can count on my support for adaptations.
Featuring the largest linked die tree to date, with over 2,600 linked coins, including 95% of Divi series coins; with the conclusions that this implies. Especially about officinae envolved, as 95% of the coins registered are die linked, I think that only one officina was involved.
Include a page of fake coins detected to date.
I hope you like it and if you see anything that could improve it, tell me.

Greetings
Joaquim Blay

Sadly there are some Transfer die fakes (3 fakes) listed as authentic on your homepage

https://www.qblay.com/soft/search-links.php?Table=DiviSeries&Lang=EN&CoinName=87-061

Why are they transfer die fakes?

1. There is a ghost line on the obverse which is 100% representing the flan shape and flan end of the authentic mother

2. The edge cracks on the reverse have been copied, they are an individual characteristic from striking of the mother and should not be found identical on another coin

3. There is an encrustration on the I of DIVI on the mother this encrustration, which is an individual characteristic of the mother from environment and it has been copied

4. These fakes only have details from the original dies which can already be found on the authentic mother!
No new details, from the original dies which are missing on the mother.

5. Detail loss and soapyness

Oh !
Sad, one of them being mine, I will have to fire it : it will end in the black cabinet. Very unpleasant !!

I guess my next goal will be to find another one of this type to keep the series complete

That was a most edifying discussion, Din et al.  I'll be forever on the lookout for die transfer fakes.

qblay: Is your DIVI SERIES section only for emperors and not for wives and children?  I see DIVI antoninianus of Nigrinian, son of Carinus, and Paulina, wife of Maximinus, which follows your prescribed format. There must be many others. The Dictionary of Roman Coins -as found in the Forum's library- makes mention of DIVO and DIVUS coinage, without enumerating the augusti in the series. It does have an interesting discussion about Septimius Severus decision to deify Commodus (DIVO COMMODO).

The ADVENTVS series comes to mind as a similar theme, spanning a number of Roman emperors about which I learned from Numiswiki.
