New addition: Agrippina Maior Sestertius

Hello,

I want to share an excellent Agrippina Sestertius with you. It has a big round flan (most of the early sestertii have such round flans, because they have been produced and struck more carefully than the late ones), and an olive patina. The surfaces are even, though there are some spots with oxyd. The details are amazing, just a little worn.

Obv. AGRIPPINA M F GERMANICI CAESARIS, Draped bust right.
Rev. TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG GERM P M TR P IMP P P / S C, legend around.
Mint: Rome, 42-54 AD.

36mm 30.38g

RIC 102 (under Claudius), BMCRE 219 (Claudius)

Agrippina mater was the daughter of Agrippa and Julia, daughter of Augustus. She married Germanicus. After the death of her husband she was banished by Tiberius after Pandateria where she should be starved on 18 October 33 AD.
