« on: October 06, 2023, 11:17:27 am »
My friend purchased a silver quinarius from Faustina II which we could determinate but we don't find any picture....

Could someone give a bit more info about this coin?

Lettering: DIVA AVG FAVSTINA

Translation:
Diva Augusta Faustina.
The divine and venerable Faustina [the Elder].
Reverse

Scepter leaning against throne, draped and elaborately ornamented.
Mint
Rome (ancient), Italy

Hi,

To start the bust is Faustina I. The type is rare and all three types with  the throne reverse recorded by Cathy King in Roman Quinarii cite only one or two examples. This coin would appear to be King 43. 41 and 42 are gold. The type is not listed in RIC.

Regards,

Mauseus

Very interesting coin - I have a particular focus on Diva Faustina silver issues and this is a nice find indeed! Thanks for sharing @Geert C and thanks @Mauseus for the ID and refs :)

Hello,
The coin is been identified by CGB France as being a silver plated lead copy, probably 19th century, I wantyed to add this info for the Forum members,
Geert
