Dated Aurelian
« on: June 30, 2006, 02:46:26 pm »
Hi,

Last weekend I came across this coin in a bulk lot of late third century antoniniani that probably came from the Balkans (as so much does today).

It is a Cyzicus mint dated issue of Aurelian: IMP AVRELIANVS AVG, radiate cuirassed bust right with single pellet below; PM TRP II COS, Neptune standing left with foot on prow holding a trident and a dolphin.

Reference: Göbl 301, Cyzicus, 2nd emission

Still bits of silvering remaining (or visible) beneath a hard green patination. Don't think I've seen one before, although Göbl lists a handfull.

Regards,

Mauseus
