Fake?
« on: July 03, 2023, 06:13:36 pm »
What do you think, are these coins of Justin II fake? The monograms seem to be very carelessly made (e.g. parts of the monogram are not connected), and the coins have strange proportions; I have not found similar examples.

They look fine to me. The odd shapes are due to sprues that haven’t been removed, which is not at all uncommon. And I don’t think small breaks in the monogram are that uncommon either.

I almost never authenticate a coin from a photo and I will not authenticate these, but I would be extremely surprised to learn they are fake.
