A superb example, congratulations on the coin, and joining the fold!
I have been worn down by my
Roman collecting friends and the high prices Greek silver is getting nowadays. I am also benefitting from friends who are changing out parts of their
collection.
This
Augustus came from someone who knew how much I liked it and he offered it to me before sending it off to
auction. I
had to sell off a couple of my
Greeks to get it, but I
had to have it. This
style coin hit a bunch of checkmarks for me. I wanted a
fine, large
Augustus portrait in silver (thus the
tetradrachm), I wanted the
capricorn reverse (personal birth sign) and I wanted the
Ephesus mint since I spent time there some years back. The condition and
provenance on this coin made it a must have for me. I can't imagine my ever
selling it.
I am happy to have it and happier to share it here.
One more
Roman coming very soon from another friend.
In the next couple weeks I am picking up an
Honorius Solidus (3/4 facing
bust Constantinople) that is virtually perfect. I'll post it once I take formal possession of it.
BR and Thanks
