Helmeted Carausius, poor but (almost) identifiable

Hi,

There are distinct advantages to specialising in collecting and also building relationships with dealers who know you specialise. I'll give you an example.

Tonight I returned home from work to find an envelope through the post that contained the coin below. I had not ordered it or discussed it with the dealer who sent it but he thought I might be interested in it so he sent it out to me "on approval". It isn't a high value coin but the gesture is appreciated and I will be purchasing it as it does fill a gap.

Carausius 287-93AD
Antoninianus
Obv “VIRTVS CARAVSI”?
Radiate, helmeted bust left holding spear and shield
Rev “PAX AVG
Pax standing left with vertical sceptre
Unmarked mint
RIC 891

Regards,

Mauseus
