Since the original
thread about my
Elagabal provincial medallion has been deleted, I have to start a new one.
In the past
thread it turned out nobody could find any reference for this coin (except from
Curtis Clay: "A
medallion from the same
obverse die as yours, but
rev. Sol mounting
quadriga above reclining Earth,
Aurora in clouds before him, same
type as the Sept.
Sev.
aureus BM pl. 10.19, was in Waddell
auction Dec. 1982, 42, "possibly unpublished"."). As
Curtis and
Patricia suggested, I wrote to the author of the upcoming monograph about
Philippopolis coins but didn't get an answer yet, unfortunately.
However, I made an interesting discovery today while reading a book about
Heracles on
roman coins (Richard Stoll:
Herakles auf Römischen Münzen, Trier 1999): on page 173/174, Nr. 130 my coin is shown!

Privatbesitz; aus Auktion 56, Nr. 622, Numismatik Dr.
Lanz, München.
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=560&pos=1This was a very surprising discovery to me. I immediately wrote an e-mail to Numismatik
Lanz asking them about additional info, because Auktion 56 isn't available online, unfortunately (maybe one of the
Forum members has this
catalogue? That would be great!). As soon as I get an answer from Numismatik
Lanz, I'll post it in here.
Curiously and impatiently waiting for info
