Wildwinds question
« on: January 03, 2008, 12:07:34 pm »
Is it just a super slow net or is anyone else having problems accessing wildwinds?  Haven't been able to do any searches all day.  thanks Jim

I can't find any entries on WildWinds at all. All the pages turn up blank.

Unless they are doing some sort of update to their system, it looks like it's a serious problem. If you go to Google's cached pages, you'll find you can still click on coin photos and text descriptions, and they are all still present on wildwind's server; the server is still working, but most (but not all) html pages are gone.

Still nothing as of 7:30 am Eastern this morning.  Really puts a cramp on things, doesn't it.  Has anyone tried emailing their webmaster with any success?

I did a search and it yielded some info, the basic info and no pics, with no way to get to the text.  I have the feeling he is working his can off trying to restore it.  I don't know if it is proper etiquette to ask, but does he accept donations?  I would be happy to paypal something to him and also here.  Once you lose them, the absolute importance of both sites becomes apparent.  It has to be a lot of work to just maintain them and when a problem arises, whew!!!

I think he is working on it:
Republican Coins are now ok
Imperatorial Coins are now ok
Imperial Coins from A to Domitian are now ok, the other not
Provincial Coins are not ok

Best regards

Some pages are working others are not.

The chronologic Imperial index isn't working:-
http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/indexc.html

In the alphabetical index many are still blank. Probus, isn't working but Carus and Carinus are for example. I suspect that he is recovering the site alpabetically and is currently around F to G in the imperial list. Just my guessing based upon a smaple of the pages I looked at...

(I see Jochen beat me to it. I think my typing must be slower than once it was.)

Regards,
Martin

Has anyone been able to get on today?  I haven't.  It was at least partially functional late yesterday, but this morning there is the same problem as before.
