Vitellius Denarius - tripod with dolphin and raven47 viewsVitellius Denarius
Obv. A VITELLIVS GERM IMP AVG TRP, laureate head right.
Rev. XV VIR SACR FAC, tripod-lebes altar with dolphin above and raven within.

The obverse die, apart from the flaw at the bottom, is very similar to one sold on ebay in May 2009 (also here in Forums fake gallery).
The nose is too bulbous and wavy, the folds of the skin at the back of the neck have been made simply by cutting > shapes out of the die, the back of the jaw has been recut to an unnatural angular shape, the overall shape of the head is too short etc.
On the reverse the A at top right is at the wrong angle, the globe is oval instead of circular, the tripod to too wide and dumpy.
This is what this coin type should look like:

Offered to a dealer in Southern England, 2016.

Vitellius Denarius
Obv. A VITELLIVS GERM IMP AVG TRP, laureate head right.
Rev. XV VIR SACR FAC, tripod-lebes altar with dolphin above and raven within.
The obverse die is similar to the other fake of the same reverse type which I
uploaded yesterday.
Here too the nose is too bulbous and wavy. The raven's beak should not be open
and the raven itself is too large. The legs of the tripod should be solid.
Offered to a dealer in Southern England along with numerous other fakes in Spring 2016.
