CILICIA, Tarsos Pharnabazos AR Stater - Opinions requested
« on: March 07, 2024, 06:44:37 am »
I am requesting opinions on this coin; specificly regarding the throne where Baal is seated, but any other opinions on coin discrepencies are welcomed.

CILICIA, Tarsos. Pharnabazos. Persian military commander, 380-374/3 BC. AR Stater (22.5mm, 10.74 g, 8h). Struck circa 380-379 BC. Baal of Tarsos seated left, holding lotus-tipped scepter / Helmeted and bearded male head (Ares?) left. Casabonne Series 4; Moysey Issue 2; SNG BN 251; SNG Levante 72. Toned, minor marks, trace deposits, slightly off center and minor porosity at edge on reverse.

The Pedigree is as follows:
Ex Gorny & Mosch 165 (17 March 2008), lot 1360.
Ex. CNG Electronic Auction 519, Lot: 195.
Ex. CNG Electronic Auction 557, Lot: 98.

Thanks

The arrow points to an interruption in the chair leg. The cause is a blocked die.

Kind regards
