Postumus..but which nominal? As, Dupondius, Sestertius?
« on: June 06, 2013, 04:07:26 pm »
Hello,

unfortunately a very much  corroded coin of  Postumus  with "Laetitia" -reverse.

Av.: Radiate bust right, IMP C  POSTVMVS (P F AVG)
Rv.:( LAETITIA AVG), galley right with  rowers, (SC) in exergue

Diameter 24-25 mm, weight 7,45 g.

I know that there is great frequency range to the weight of Postumus´coins, but which nominal could it be? An As, a dupondius, reduced Sestertius or whatever?

Thank you very much.

Best regards

Aulus

Looks like a reduced (and almost certainly cast) so-called double sestertius from 'Atelier II' or another irregular mint. These can be very small and lightweight. Yours is at the lightest end of the weight bracket.
