My favourite Florian
« on: September 30, 2008, 11:19:38 am »
I recently updated the photo of my favourite Florian coin from my collection. It is inevitably from Lugdunum. I think it is worthy of sharing as a CoTD and I am quite happy with the way the photo turned out.

Florian Antoninianus - RIC V part II Lugdunum 016
Obv:– IMP C M AN FLORIANVS AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right
Rev:– VIRTVS AVGVSTI, Emperor advancing right, holding a shield and spear, treading down captive.
Minted in Lugdunum (IIII in exe) Emission 3 Officina 4, from September to October A.D. 276
Reference:– Cohen 107. Bastien 150. RIC 16 Bust type

A more face similar to Florianus that to Tacitus, beautiful sample!

Nice reverse Martin. A captive begging for his life  by holding the emperor's leg?

I'd say the captive has his hands tied behind his back and the emperor is stepping on the captive's back in order to crush and annihilate him!

Curtis is right but the way this particular example came out it really does look like a "face" is looking up at the emperor, kinda like a two sided bust there  :)

I think the captive is turning his head back to look at the emperor.
