sorry for my late reply, I've been away for two days. I'm surprised your coin was offered in a Gemini
auction. Yes, it is cleverly aged but
still I don't think it is convincing to someone familiar with
the Gallic Empire coinage, note, f.e., the P I
AVG, similar to the specimen in the
fake reports, or the way too perfectly round
flan, the nicely flat fields with razor
sharp borders of the incusum (especially on the spikes of the crown), the
style of the A and V in the
legend (I can't seen much of the other letters). I'm sure that if one would clean it a
bit, it would turn out to be a pretty obvious
fake.
Of course, my judgment is based on the two pictures of your coin only; it would be interesting to see the edges. But if you would like to get a definitive opinion of mine, you can send me the coin so that I can investigate it in
hands. Alternatively, you could also send it to someone nearer to you.
