Hi, all. I am having trouble finding a reference for this ring type. Part of the problem may be that I am not familiar with the terminology used to describe jewelry. I am not even sure what color to call it, in some light it looks reddish orange and in darker light it looks purple or violet. There is also a small hole through the underside of the bezel. I would be interested to know if this was part of the manufacturing process or if it had some other functional purpose. Any ideas or corrections regarding references, dating, culture and the descriptive terms I am using would be appreciated. I did find a nearly identical ring at etsy when I googled "ancient bronze ring cabochon" but it gave very little information on the possible origins, or at least none that I felt I could trust. I am thinking 3rd-5th Century CE., but coming from Caesarea it could be almost any date. Nothing exactly like it in The Hendler Collection, nor at British Museum and MMOA. Thanks for any ideas.
