Hello my friends, today I would like to share my last
pick up of 2023, which I have uploaded to my
gallery today. This is a Holy Grail coin for me, one I have been chasing for many years, so I felt that it was COTD worthy. You very rarely see this
type in a
Sestertius, it seems to be significantly more
rare than any of the other
denominations that have this
type. The stars finally aligned and I came across the right specimen at the right
price. This coin is much nicer in the hand, it was a challenge to photograph, and I did it the best justice I could do. I love the
portrait, it is quite lovely, but this one is of course more about the
reverse. I like how clear and well executed it is, the eagles are nice and in the hand you can really see the spiraling on the
column representing the reliefs. It also has a curious but definitely deliberate dot in the
field to the right of the
column, which I think must be some sort of marker to get the
column engraving
well centered on the
reverse die.
I
hope that your New Year is going well, and that you will enjoy seeing this important Holy Grail addition to my
gallery. And as always your views and comments are very much appreciated.
