Some museums have numismatic
collections, and it's a great day when one of them makes their
collections available online. Here's some news: The University of
Glasgow's
Hunterian Museum has recataloged and placed online a
Celtic coin
collection.
The
good: three interns cataloged two hundred coins, using digital
tools, for the first time in over 100 years!
The bad: the
website is hard to locate, hard to use, and limited. You really need to
work to find things; it would
help to have experience and insight into their taxonomy and vocabulary. The photographs were something that only museum curators would love.
I was only able to find 98
Celtic coins online (I limit the
search to records with photos). Please give it a whirl if you're so inspired.
