Very nice! Also, the style seems official, and it's not a plated coin - with the wear it has, a bronze core would be visible.

Coin of the Day / Coin of the day - Commodus As & a Sear plate coin
« Last post by CPK on Today at 06:53:53 pm »
Good evening all! Hope you had a fine weekend. I have a very special coin to show today - an as of Commodus:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=187551

The coin itself is very attractive, with a fine portrait and a beautiful patina. It's also an extremely rare type, not listed in RIC, and carries an interesting collection provenance to the Jeff Clark VOTA Collection.
But the best part I found when I looked up the type in my copy of David R. Sear's Roman Coins and Their Values, and saw this very coin pictured on page 411!

Later I discovered that the coin had been auctioned by Numismatic Fine Arts in their Dec. 10, 1980 auction, from which Sear probably used it for his reference work.

Needless to say, I'm thrilled to have discovered this incredible provenance, and to be able to own an illustrated plate coin published in such a popular and well-known reference catalog!

Wow. Thank you Martin. A very good idea to have put the photos in your gallery. And nice descriptions too, it should have been a lot of work to do it.

Very interesting! Thanks for taking the time and trouble to post them here for us!

I recently had the luck to be able to visit the current exhibition - Legion: life in the Roman army at the British Museum. I took some photos to give an idea of what was on display and have uploaded some to my gallery.
They comprise the last 49 images in the gallery linked below.

I hope that there is something of interest to members.

I have a long close relationship with the Triassaria of Markianopolis. I am all the more pleased to have discovered a new variant that is apparently unpublished.

Moesia inferior, Markianopolis, Diadumenian as Caesar, AD 217-218
AE 26 (Triassarion), 7.99g, 25.56mm, 180°
Obv.: M OPELLION ANTWNEINON KAICAR
Bust, draped and cuirassed, seen from behind, bareheaded, r.
Rev: MARKIANO - POLEITWN
Artemis as huntress, with boots, in short hunting dress and with nebris, r., hurrying r.,
holding bow in her outstretched left hand and with her raised right hand drawing an
arrow from the quiver over her right shoulder; at her feet the hound leaping right (only
         remnants visible)
         Gamma in the left field
Ref.: a) not in AMNG
         b) Varbanov 1314 (wrongly quotes AMNG 788)
         c) not in Hristova/Jekov (2014)
         d) not in Pfeiffer (2014)
         e) not in Megaw (2014)
         probably unpublished

This type is more common with the legend M OPELLION ANTWNEINON KAICAR with ligated NE. The E in the lower right field is the front part of the dog, which jumps to the right.

With kind regards
Jochen

I came upon these as part of a larger, mostly Roman Provicinal lot. I've become completely stuck trying to ID several of them, and aren't sure about several others. Hoping the forums can help share some light on these.
What legends are visible appear to be in Greek.

1,2,4 Judean Prutahs or procurator coins?

5. Uncertain, possibly a Dolphin motif

6. Uncertain Indo-scythian? Octagonal

7. Augustus with Tiberius (Macedon?)

8. Kings of Albania?
