Am I close on identification of Silver Antoninianus Gordian coin
« on: September 03, 2023, 03:02:50 pm »
Below is what I have been able to find about the coin I found.

Obverse: IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, Radiate draped and cuirassed bust right.
Reverse: Is similar to FIDES MILITVM, Fides standing facing, head left, holding standard and scepter.

I am pretty sure on the obverse, but the reverse is where I am unsure if I am correct.

The diameter is OK, but a weight of 2.2 gm would worry me a bit.
A low-weight Gordian III denarius might be 2.2 gm; most denarii weight 3.7 gm or so. t
The lowest weight Gordian III antoninianus in my collection is 3.11 gm, with most of them weighing around 4 to 4.5 gm, or even a bit more.

Don’t touch this coin. This is a modern forgery.

Agree with Dominic

No flow lines and a strange fabric. I wonder what it's made of?

Even found one in the FCR. Wrong style, wrong lettering, wrong iconography, wrong weight

Fake of RIC 15.   2.2 gm, 22 mm.

What's it made of?  At that weight, maybe aluminum?

Here's a slightly enlarged and combined picture of the coin if anyone wants to replace the blurry on in the FCR.
