late byzantine like gr.1471-74 need help
« on: June 23, 2007, 12:42:44 pm »
obverse looks very eagle-like to me, hard to see in pix, and is stylized.... a lot of this design is dotted, it is almost exactly like some flat thin flanned andronicus III and or john V shown in grierson #1471-74, up to and including the star in field left of emperor, but is not listed in my book....any help greatly appreciated....b

thank you...i attributed as andronicus II gr1438, i will correct the attribution as  stated perhaps with addendum of imitative of 1438? the coins are very similar and its very difficult to see the coin in these pictures..

Gr. # 1438 / D. Sear 2373/ depicted St. Demetrios on obverse, no eagle! There 2 stars in l. on reverse, and the emperors garments are different.
Definitely it is a coin of Tsar Ioan Sratsimir.
