Need help with this-possibly Hebrew script-large portrait
« on: February 14, 2008, 03:32:47 am »
It resembles Hebrew but the portrait is of what appears to be a bearded man with horns or possibly a helmet.  It is 30cm in diameter.  I need a new scale or else I'd give the weight. It feels rather heavy though.  Any help would be appreciated.  Coin, medal, token, fake or fantasy?

Definitely a modern cast and it looks like a fantasy 'coin'.
It's probably more around 30mm though?

The obverse is Zeus Ammon and the reverse looks islamic to me, I doubt that's
a real coin that is copied here.

That's Arabic, not Hebrew. They're very similar languages, but the scripts are very different.

The coin weighs 16.1 grams by the way. Thanks for everyone's help.

Does anyone in this forum have any idea of how I can go about finding the English translation of whatever language the reverse is in? Any other options?  Should I pay for authentication?

You can ask the people at Zeno for help, http://www.zeno.ru , or post it to the Yahoo Islamic Coin Group, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/islamic_coins/ .

Why would you pay to authenticate a fake?  That's a waste of money.
