One new Flavian denarius this week.  This Titus as Caesar was spotted by eagle eye David Atherton as misidentified as Vespasian. Good condition for my collection and great price, so I'm glad to have it.

I'm glad you got it! A fairly rare type for Titus that may not come around again for a while.

An new coin of Vespasian.  What's special about this to me is that it's my first brokage, and from what I've seen of a few others for sale, it's a decent one.  The bust transferred well, but even the lettering is a perfect mirror image of the obverse from 1:00 to 5:00.  The wear on the obverse isnt that bad either, except in one spot- the lettering around 3:00.  other thant that wear, you can see hair, the wrinkle on Vespasian's brow.  Much better condition that my average coin, and for me, the brockage adds to, rather than takes away from the coin's interest.

I've always wanted to get a brockage, yours is very nicely detailed.  Hope you don't mind I adjusted the color and contrast.

EDIT: You should use the dealer pic! Much better.

Can I use the dealer pics in my gallery?  I feel pretty lame doing it, but my pictures aren't doing the coins any justice either.

I have a few dealer pics in my gallery but I do know them personally.  It wouldn't hurt to ask permission, most will let you as long as you note it in the description and give credit.

Still struggling with the photography, I have 5 new coins I've worked through to add to my gallery.

First, 4 Flavians.

Two coins of Vespasian,

1.  A left facing portrait with mars reverse: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-67836

2.  A worn coin minted earlier in Vespasian's reign, RIC II says coins minted during this period yet lacked the typical Vespasian portrait that was to become familiar on his later coins:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-67835.

Two coins of Domitian:

3.  A Minervia/Vixtrix reverse.  Listed as common, I don't see as many of these around as other Minerva types:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-67832

4.  A second Minerva type, but in better condition that most of my coins with a great flan:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-67833.  My favorite coins from my new group found, and pointed out to me by David Atherton.

4.  Finally, a diversion from the Flavians with my first Galba.  The coin is unremarkable, and well worn, but I love it.  I hope to get one of each of the Emperors from the Year of 4 Emperors:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-67834.

If anyone sees misidentifications, errors, or omissions, please help educate me.

Very nice additions!

The domitian Vitrix is not 'common' IMHO. Excellent catch!

Setting aside any copyright issues... IMHO using dealer photos and properly crediting them in a collector forum such as this, is free advertising for the dealer and should be welcome.
Maybe not from Joe's perspective, if they weren't purchased from him ;) That said, he does allow us to display coins from our collections that are purchased elsewhere, so probablly doesn't mind too much.

I think we should support our host as much as possible!!!

Absolutely not!

A few new additions today:

Three Flavians

1.  Domitian as Caesar under Vespasian with a rider on the reverse.  Well worn, but I love this reverse type. https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-68099

2.  Domitian as Caesar under Titus.  Another well worn coin, but I see fewer with Domitian as Caesar under Titus.  I also like the flan irregularities at 3 and 6.  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-68100

3.  Titus.  worn and irregular flan, but another of the pulvinaria series.  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-68097

And a Non Flavian:

4.  A well worn Nero, but another of the 12 Caesars in silver I didn't have.  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-68098

Happy viewing.  I'll work on better specimens for next time.

Nice additions!

Though you really should leave a few flavians for the rest of us ;D

Nice portrait of "old bullfrog", I mean Nero ;) I still need to get one of him too ::)

Lucas, all of your recent additions are very nice, but I am especially fond of your Nero.  I don’t own a denarius of Nero yet, and I would be very pleased to have an example as nice as yours in my collection.  :)

New Domitian.  One of the best preserved coins I have obtained with hardly any wear, even on the highest points like the laurel wreath on his head

Wow, if we used a ‘Mint State Scale’ such as collectors (read that as investors ) of United States coins have, I could imagine this being slabbed as an MS-65 or better.  Thankfully we don’t use such a system and I’m not advocating going in that direction.  ;)

Simply call that cut across the neck a damnatio if you ever intend to sell it.  ;D

Oops, still MS-65?  Maybe, MS-63? (who cares.  Thankfully we don't do that here)  ;D  Still a wonderful coin.

Either way, it's never going in a slab so long as I own it!  I have it in a flip in my pocket right now at work for my pocket piece of the day before I put it away for safe keeping.   ;)

Good question.  I haven't found an entirely satisfactory solution.  Currently, I have safety flips in pages in three ring binders (one for Flavians, and one for everything else).  It's easy to flip through, easy to transport, and easy to hide.
