Hi, all.  Here is another ring from Caesarea Maritima.  I have been going through some uncatalogued material to add to my Bronze Metal gallery.  Any ideas about the date and possible significance of the asymmetrical setting would be appreciated.  I found some other offset rings in the Hendler Collection from Caesarea, British Museum Collection and MMOA, New York, but nothing similar to this one.  Most of the descriptions in the two museum collections I checked online seem woefully inadequate.  Thanks, again.  Jimi

Bronze Finger Ring
Caesarea Maritima
1st-2nd Century CE?
Copper alloy ring set with a very pale blue, transparent
round glass cabochon.  Thin, almost round hoop of nearly
flat cross-section, flattened at the top.  Band gradually
widening to narrow shoulders, which lead directly into a
flat oval bezel distinctly asymmetrical to one sideGem
profile type C3C (hemispherical with flat underside) set
in a shallow recess and severely eroded, with numerous
small air bubbles.  The offset bezel, presumably an intentional
detail, seems to give the setting the appearance of an eye.
AE18.5 x 18.5 x 8mm. Wt. 1.08gm.
