Dolphin swimming left: eye and tail pierced for attaching to belt.
Ref/ A&L AA 8.32

Is this correct?

A nice piece!  I suppose it could be attached to anything as a decoration like a casket or furniture.  I can't say I'm aware of them being attached to belts though.

They are generally referred to as belt decorations, though as far as I know none have been found in situ.
