Worn Caracalla /Herc wrestling Antaeus
« on: May 25, 2008, 12:18:10 pm »
Morning all,

As you can tell, I have been on an ID help tear of late. This one is a worn bronze and it depicts Hercules wrestling with the giant Antaeus on the reverse. The best match I could find on either wildwinds of coinarchives is: http://www.coinarchives.com/a/lotviewer.php?LotID=187886&AucID=241&Lot=1064

The prob is that I do not think that this was from Troas as the reverse legend (from the 1-3 oclock, the only semi legible part of the coin) seems to show C Lambda where the TRO of Troas should be, and it is bigger and heaverier, even in its badly worn state, than the example.

27mm 10.23g

Any help is always appreciated,

Chris

Crud, so I did, sorry about that. As you can tell, I am pretty far behind in my attributions.

All apologies.
