Lead Tokens from Memphis (Egypt) by J.G. Milne
« on: March 30, 2013, 03:52:21 pm »
Hi Folks,

While researching some scarabs, I came across an article by J.G. Milne who is often cited by coin collectors. The article is titled "Lead Tokens from Memphis" and it is buried in Ancient Egypt 1915, pages 107-121 (including 5 Plates). Here is the link: http://archive.org/stream/ancientegy1914to17brituoft#page/n347/mode/2up
     I hope this helps
Russ

Milne wrote a number of articles on Egyptian leads, eventually culminating in his Catalogue of Alexandrian Coins. It is one of the three most important works on the series, the other two being the complete plates of the Dattari collection and the collection in Cologne. Here are the other articles:

Milne, J.G. 1900. “The Coins.” In Fayûm Towns and their Papyri, edited by, Bernard P. Grenfell, Arthur S. Hunt, and David G. Hogarth, 64–74. London: Pauk, Trench, Trübner & Co.
___. 1914. “Graeco-Roman Leaden Tesserae from Abydos.” The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology 1 2: 93–95.
___. 1915. “Leaden Tokens from Memphis.” Ancient Egypt: 107–121.
___. 1922. “The Coins from Oxyrhynchus.” The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology 8 3: 158–163.
___. 1930. “Egyptian Leaden Tokens.” Numismatic Chronicle 5 10: 300–316, pl. XXII.
___. 1938. “Report on Coins Found at Tebtunis in 1900.” Journal of Egyptian Archaeology 21 2: 210–26, pl. XXVI.
