Very Rare Caracalla Denarius
« on: November 26, 2015, 02:07:29 pm »
Opinions on this very rare denarius of Caracalla and Sep Sev and Julia Domna. RIC 125a, Sear 6537
Weight is 3g but no size listed.

I'm mixed on the authenticity of this one but it just doesn't look right and there are pearls all over the reverse in the letters etc. The seller has a few questionable denarii I'll post after consensus on this one.
He has this one misidentified as Geta.

for me what is worrying is the rim seen on obverse.

Agreed, lots wrong. They look to be matches with these two FN coins but the FN doesn't say where the dies originated.
I think this one is bad.

And then this one in the fakes here which looks to be a reverse but not obverse match.

I certainly wouldn't buy it from that photo, even without any matches.  This is not an opinion on the authenticity, the photos just are not good enough to really see the coin.
