NFSL nominaton
« on: August 05, 2012, 01:40:51 pm »
I suggest adding [NAME REMOVED BY ADMIN] to NFSL. The description of the 'widow's mite' (see below) includes the following statement:
The Item:
Here we have a "Widows Mite" Coin in a sterling silver setting. The coin is about 2000 years old and was recovered from excavation sites in or around Jerusalem.

I'm missing the point. Isn't the item shown exactly as described?

By the way, 'glued on sand' is now called 'earthen refill patination'.  ::)

The estimate of the age of the item is off by about 2000 years. Otherwise, the description is accurate.

OK. I must admit the "widow's mite" looks more or less like thousands that I've seen advertised over the years. But it's not my area so I assume you must be right on this. Is it so blatant that the seller certainly knows?

The seller knows, what an authentic 'widow's mite' looks like. Here is another one of his listings:

Snegovik,  The widow's mite could be a replica but they vary greatly, so it could be genuine.  The Alexander the Great drachm(?) or tetradrachm(?) looks like a cast replica

Please review the rules of this board.  Do not name sellers and nominate them for the NFSL until after coins they list have been condemned.  When you do nominate them, include a link to their item listing on eBay.

That seems to confirm it is a replica.  Please nominate the seller again and include a link to their item list.

To be on the safe side, I contacted the seller and informed him that this is a modern copy. I will post an update when I hear back from him.
