I think it is Arsinoe, the wife of Ptolemy II Philadelphos. You can read ARSINOHS and PHILADELPHOV on the rev.

. It was minted in Alexandria, Egypt, by Ptolemy V and dates to 191 BCE. It is only the second gold Ptolemaic coin ever found in Israel.

The obverse, or 'head' of the coin, portrays Queen Arsinoe II Philadelphus.

The reverse, or 'tail,' illustrates two "overlapping cornucopias decorated with fillets," according to the IAA.

It did actually.

Quote
Ariel said the coin's image may represent Cleopatra I, wife of Ptolemy V.

The first quote is from MSNBC, the second from CNN.

Journalists, hmph! ;)

Is Cleopatra I the same person as Queen Arsinoe II? I don't know alot about ancient coins and would be enlightened if you would tell me,Mr.Hooten?

No, they are different people. I am just pointing out out that both reports contradict each other!

I feel if someone has a coin that they can't identify and someone tells them that the bust on a coin is so and so,that is not a complete ID. One wants more than that for an idenfication. I mean you wouldn't be satisfied with Arsinoe II as the total ID,you would like to have a reference for it and other things about it that makes the id complete. I was just curious about these things is the reason I asked for an id. Yet it seems it is pick on poor old Barabus week. Yeah,I know! TS for Barabus!

Who is on this coin?

That was your question! And I think we have answered it correctly.

During passover didn't pontius pilate free barabus (sic) so he could crucify Jesus?

He's said to have done so, but it's not a custom that's been recorded anywhere outside the New Testament. Why would anyone agree to release a convicted rebel anyway? It's extremely strange behaviour, to say the least!
