Fake Ephesos bee/stag ae?
« on: June 28, 2016, 05:51:05 am »
I would like some opinions on the authenticity of the coin below.  It is an ae19 of Ephesos featuring a bee and a stag.  Weight is 2.01g.

I normally collect Roman denarii, but I also like animals on coins, and the Ephesos bee ones are appealing to me.  So this is a little bit outside my normal collecting area.

It was purchased from a German auction house that mainly sells on fleabay, and I have purchased denarii from them in the past without problems.

My concerns are that the details seem soft, especially on the reverse, and the edge marks (seams/joins?).

Yes, a cast forgery of a silver Drachm.

Thanks guys.

It's on its way back to the seller, and I've uploaded a fake report.
