Thanks for sharing this with us. It is wonderful to see the combination of careful hand lettering for your flips and the modern technology for your data. I relish the old handwritten flips, and I make them part of my collection, with photographs, as you do. It would almost be a shame if you were to use the software to print flips.

Love your coins, too. 😊

I'm stumped on this silver unit. I initially thought it was Celtic but I'm doubting myself now. Its approx 13mm. Any suggestions would be most welcome :-)

Thanks in advance

Regarding the collection management program, I chose OpenNumismat. The program has open-source code, so you can customize it according to your preferences. You can include descriptions of any length in it. You can add up to 8 photos to each coin. The most significant improvement this program has is the ability to generate PDF reports of the entire collection. Unfortunately, none of the available reports satisfied me, so I made modifications to one of them.

Tell me what you think about it.

Over the past month and a half, I've been focused on finding the right software to manage my coin collection and practicing my handwriting in calligraphy. When it comes to describing the coins on labels, I write them in cursive and limit the length to the necessary minimum. It looks like this:

Hi, all.  Here is another ring from Caesarea Maritima.  I have been going through some uncatalogued material to add to my Bronze Metal gallery.  Any ideas about the date and possible significance of the asymmetrical setting would be appreciated.  I found some other offset rings in the Hendler Collection from Caesarea, British Museum Collection and MMOA, New York, but nothing similar to this one.  Most of the descriptions in museum collections online seem woefully inadequate.  Thanks, again.  Jimi

BCC MA60
Bronze Finger Ring
Caesarea Maritima
1st-2nd Century CE?
Copper alloy ring set with a very pale blue, transparent
round glass cabochon.  Thin, almost round hoop of nearly
flat cross-section, flattened at the top.  Band gradually
widening to narrow shoulders, which lead directly into a
flat oval bezel distinctly asymmetrical to one side.  Gem
profile type C3C (hemispherical with flat underside) set
in a shallow recess and severely eroded, with numerous
small air bubbles.  The offset bezel, presumably an intentional
detail, seems to give the setting the appearance of an eye.
AE18.5 x 18.5 x 8mm. Wt. 1.08gm.

Well ouch. Just bid on 11 more Weise coins and lost all 11.  All were ric “rare”denarii or unique denarii of septimius severus.

Cheapest one went for $500 pls 20%, taxes and shipping.

This is not a cheap hobby!

I did pick up an amazing Pupienus ant I am keen to receive and photograph at the same auction though. Also very not cheap :(
