Syracusan Ptolemaic Bronze Paper Updated
« on: February 08, 2008, 02:50:50 am »
The paper on Syracusan Ptolemaic Bronzes at www.ptolemybronze.com has been updated.  Catharine Lorber prepared a table of control letters and monograms (as presented in Calciati) on a variety of Hieron's bronze coinage.  This additional analysis further strengthens the ties we initially presented between the 'Ptolemaic' types and Hieron's coinages.

A collector also contributed an entirely uncatalogued type to add to the list of 'Syracusan' Ptolemaic coins and the discussion of chronology of the Hieron portrait/horseman bronze series has been expanded.  And a 'missing' illustration or two have been filled in.  If you had a look at the when we first posted it in late December (07) you may wish to give it a fresh look with the revisions in place.

We continue our request to the collector community for submission of 'Syracusan' Ptolemaic bronzes that may help us create a die study for publication as well.
