Re: Flavian gallery restarted - Rare Vespasian Tetradrachm - Uncertain Mint
« Reply #252 on: March 24, 2015, 08:21:00 am »
Hello everyone,

today I've received this interesting Syrian tetradrachm belonging to the 6th group, the same of the rare issues in the name of Titus. These coins show a club in reverse left field.

The actual location of the mint is uncertain; Prieur suggested Tyre, while the editors of RPC II incline to a Judaean environment on the grounds of the connection with a group of aurei.

Kind regards

Alberto

Hello everyone,

today I've received this AE 26 and I like to share it.

I've always liked the alliance coinage among Asia Minor cities.

Kind regards

Hello everyone,

today I've received these three coins, all of them proceeding from a Dr. George Spradling Collection.

They are: an unpublished large bronze of Domitian struck in Midaeum, a very nice and rare middle bronze of Titus struck in Ancyra (both are already shown in AsiaMinorCoins) and last but not least my second Alexandrian double portrait tetradrachm.

Kind regards

Alberto

Re: Flavian gallery restarted - Domitian AE from Claudiconium - second known
« Reply #259 on: April 28, 2015, 07:32:15 am »
Hello everyone,

today I've received a couple of gems from a recent auction.

First is this lovely AE20 of Domitian as Caesar of Claudiconium in Lycaonia.

This type was discovered only recently and described in the S3 Supplement of RPC II.

My coin appears to be from a slightly different couple of dies.

Kind regards

Alberto

Hello everyone,

today I've received this nice and rare early left portrait denarius of Domitian, thanks to fellow Forum member Pierre (labienus).

Funny enough a few hours ago Lucas H posted another example of this coin which he too purchased from another Forum member.

The two coins are a double die match: amazing!

Kind regards

Alberto

Hello everyone,

today I received three Flavian bronzes:

- a well preserved and very rare AE29 of Vespasian from Macedonia: only one cited in RPC II, a couple more sold in auction

- a worn but extremely rare left portrait dupondius of Domitian of 85 A.D.

- a nice sestertius of the same year.

Kind regards

Alberto

Hello everyone,

I've just received this early Vespasian middle bronze struck in Spain.

These coins are scarce since the local mint operated shortly, in the very beginning of his reign.

Kind regards

Hello everyone.

Fortuna is the commonest reverse among Domitian middle bronze, yet some issue is quite scarce.

This coin, struck in 87 A.D., bears witness to the progressive reduction in the use of the Aegis in Domitian coinage.

I've been unable to find another example online; the BM example is from different dies.

Kind regards

Aberto
