Greek lead seal- ID please
« on: April 25, 2024, 01:10:25 pm »
Hello
I need your help, please.
I've been trying to identify this seal but haven't found any information yet.
The obverse could be a depiction of two dolphins, but I'm not sure.
Dim/wt 19mm/5.97gr.
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Danny

Hi,
I think that seal depicts a lion bringing down prey (deer, antelope, bull). It's a fairly common type, known from multiple dies. Compare this one from my database.
Regards
Gert

Hi Gert,
Thank you for your reply.
It is indeed possible that it is the same type of seal.
As I have other similar seals in my collection, I will see if I can get more details.
Thanks again.
Kind regards,
Danny
