Ancient and Medieval Coin Identification Help / Re: Greek? Provincial? Any ref?

This coin probably is from Natounia in Adiabene:
https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1000242
https://gallica.bnf.fr/services/engine/search/sru?operation=searchRetrieve&version=1.2&startRecord=0&maximumRecords=15&page=1&query=%28gallica%20all%20%22natounia%20bronze%22%29&filter=dc.type%20all%20%22objet%22
There are different variants of the legend and it's spacing.

See e.g. Georges Le Rider, "Monnaies grecques acquises par le Cabinet des Médailles en 1959", Revue numismatique, 6e série - Tome 2, année 1959 pp. 7-35:

Nice coin. The invocation of Neptune ahead of the sea crossing from Britain as part of the preparations to return to Rome. Unfortunately Severus didn't make it alive. There is an apparent narrative in late Severan coins, and those of his sons. Despite the obvious VICT BRIT you find Neptune, Salus (the ailing health of the emperor), Providentia (the dynasty in place) and Fortuna Redux, (the forthcoming return to Rome).

Regards,

Mauseus

Thank you! That is interesting how one can follow the chain of events through the coinage.  :)

Fake Coins and Notorious Fake Sellers / Trajan Denarius
« Last post by Tyler K on May 06, 2024, 09:41:03 pm »
A friend of mine who is brand new to the hobby sent me some pictures of a Trajan denarius he received as a gift. Can anyone confirm if this denarius is ok?

To me, something looks off about the portrait but I am not familiar with the type and far from an expert.

Thanks

The closest one that I have found is from Adiabene in Mesopotamia, but legends are different
