Hi Postumus.

Which ones ? what for ?

I have only two in my gallery :
https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=1849&page=1&sort=na

But if they are of any use, you can have them.

For Aurei, you should acquire Bernhard Schulte, Die Goldprägung der gallischen Jauser von Postumus bis Tetricus, Aarau, Frankfurt am Main, Salzburg, 1983.

Hi Postumus,

I have pictures of three Antoninianii of Postumus in my gallery which you are welcome to use. They are in the section marked "Valerian to Quintillus".

There is also this piece of Roman jewellery (shown below) containing an aureus of Postumus which formed part of the Arras Hoard found in 1922.

I have a fourree brockage.   If you like, I can try to photograph it this weekend and post it if you like.

I think he is looking for Aurei and Denarii, not Antoniniani. But I'd love to see that fourrée brockage - the only Postumus brockages I've seen to date were fakes.

See, f.e., here: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/fakes/displayimage.php?album=search&cat=0&pos=5 It shows up quite regularly, in various "mutations", see f.e., he one shown here, which is also fake, but cleverly aged: http://www.emigh.org/numis/fourree/brockage-fourrees.html

That doesn't necessarily mean no genuine Postumus fourrées exist, of course.

Very interesting problem. I've just looked at the archive of the past auctions of Inasta.com. They have 97 coins of Postumus, but they are all either antoniniani or sesterces, not a single denarius or aureus...

Zach Beasley has this denarius of Postumus on his website.
The photo is courtesy of Roma Numismatics.

Lars,

The Postumus on the link appears to be my coin that I purchased through the Gemini IV auction.  What make you believe that it is a fake Fouree Brockage?

Hi Jeremy

sorry for my late reply, I've been away for two days. I'm surprised your coin was offered in a Gemini auction. Yes, it is cleverly aged but still I don't think it is convincing to someone familiar with the Gallic Empire coinage, note, f.e., the P I AVG, similar to the specimen in the fake reports, or the way too perfectly round flan, the nicely flat fields with razor sharp borders of the incusum (especially on the spikes of the crown), the style of the A and V in the legend (I can't seen much of the other letters). I'm sure that if one would clean it a bit, it would turn out to be a pretty obvious fake.

Of course, my judgment is based on the two pictures of your coin only; it would be interesting to see the edges. But if you would like to get a definitive opinion of mine, you can send me the coin so that I can investigate it in hands. Alternatively, you could also send it to someone nearer to you.

I got Jeremy's coin some time ago and it proved to be a fake, as I suspected, even though cleverly aged. We have specimens from very similar dies in the fake reports (see second picture), with the same P I error.

I have one of these, which I knowingly bought as an interesting fake. The portrait isn't too bad as these things go, but the rest is utterly unconvincing!
