Dear Joe and all at
ForumI considered for a couple of days what message of condolence I might write for Diane, though she was not known to me personally, but for a loss in a circumstance that I recognise. In the end, I can only say a word on what I know. Over the decades of my working life, a number of times I have felt the shock of losing a trusted colleague and friend at my
work, sometimes wholly unexpectedly, sometimes after an illness, and sometimes the traumatic event was of another kind, a
car accident, a stroke or a physical attack. In each case the shock was as much as if it happened in my own family, because our colleagues come in time to be those we share most time with, and we know so well, and rely on so much. I did not know Diane and cannot feel how her loss has affected her family, friends and colleagues, but I have taken some time to quietly reflect on those colleagues of mine that I've lost over the years, in commemoration of Diane.
