Larissa AE 20
« on: April 16, 2012, 07:55:04 pm »
My coin of the day came my way at auction because it is not easy to photograph and the seller's image was not as good as mine (which is not all that good compared to the coin).  Of course the coin has wear as well and nobody bids on coins with flat noses.

The horse and rider's noses look perfectly fine to me :)

Nice coin with a beautiful patina! Great Photo, as usual!

And the die for the head is not, as often, vapid but has a certain majesty and nobility.

i like it.

it's sadly true that facing-head coins are susceptible to flattening, and it can look like the nymph just went 15 rounds with the Champ. even so, facing-heads just seem to have a certain je ne sais... something, an intangible charm that transcends the wear or damage, as if the image itself is interacting with the viewer.

there was a time when i thought about collecting nothing but facing head coins.
yeah, right!  $$$
