Medieval/modern silver coins from Poland?
« on: January 13, 2009, 07:18:38 am »
Hello, does anyone know something about these two coins? To me the eagle resembles that of Poland, so I suppose they are polish but that is all I know.

I might have posted too soon.  These may well be Poland, and not Swidica.  My apologies.

Hi

I think the poorer style one is the same as this https://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=50556.0 a coin of Casimir IV, though I can't read the king's name at all so I can't be sure.

The nicer style one is definitely a half groschen of Alexander (1501-1506), Saurma 5283, 2776 on Pl.LXXXXI.

Obv. ALEXANDER : DEI : G : REX round eagle
Rev. MONETA : REGIS : POLONIE round crown

Best wishes

Alan
