How to attach a avatar picture on my profile?

under my profile summary , i see a column with picture/text ,  but how can i put something there?

Go to 'Forum Profile Information', this link should work for you:

Right at the top you will see two boxes, the first for the avatar picture.
Your avatar picture needs to be hosted somewhere else, you can't upload one.
If you have one, put the address into the box like this: http://www.example.com/images/example.jpg
make sure it's a small picture (80x80 pixels or so).


Text you can just put in the 'Personal Text' box but whatever you put in there will just be displayed as text.

Hmm, Avitars used to be turned off.  I'm not sure how they were turned back on.   I have always thought they would be a distraction from intelligent discussion.   Should I leave them on?

I don't see the harm in it, most people are going to use their favourite coin or emperor anyway.
It seems it happened with the latest update, it's probably the default to allow them.

I dont see why. Most engineering and scientific forums I frequent all have avatars on. I would like to think some intellegent discussion takes place there!

i had always assumed it was a function of post-count, and that i just hadn't reached that point yet.

so if i understand correctly, they can't be uploaded directly? a host site must be used?

I use the same avatar on another forum so it was no problem but yes,
the picture has to be hosted elsewhere.

I have tried to upload an avatar too.  I thought it was reserved for a certain rank because the option is not available to me.  Tried the link above but was not allowed to access it.

You can get there by clicking on 'my Forum', then 'discussion profile' and finally 'Forum Profile Information'.

But, as said before, you can't upload the picture, you have to link to it.
Linking this way to a picture not hosted by you (or someone else for you) is considered 'image leeching',

Thanks.  I had already tried my profile.  I Thought the link was to someplace else. 
There is only one box (personal text) on top for me so it must be a moderator only option. No biggie.

I too have added an avatar today. I have tried to use Forum Ancient Coins as host but that doesn't work. So I have I taken the German Forum like Areich.

It's my most beautiful Elagabal portrait.

This image leeching is when you just look up a picture (that does not belong to you) on the internet
and then post it (using the IMG tags). The picture will be loaded from the original site and especially if it's
a really high-traffic forum it can cause the site to exceed its bandwidth quota, which means it will become unreachable or
there may be fees for that site's owner.

What is the maximum pixel size for the image?

I have uploaded a 80 X80 picture yet , seems to be to small. 

I think a 160 x 160 picture  is Better.
