Electrolysis

Also referred to as zapping, nuking, or frying; electrolysis is a poor method for cleaning coins using electricity.   It can be useful if done properly by a practiced expert but as a tool used by amateurs the results are usually dismal.

Drum polishing has also been mentioned as an all-too-easy method of coin cleaning, and was actually practiced during the 1970s and into the mid-1980s.  See an NBS story of a National Geographic documentary where drum polishing and electrolysis of coins was demonstrated.
